No Rhythm Or Rhyme, Unscripted All the Time
Humble Beginnings
When Kevin and I first met I was just a guy coming in for an interview at a large scale hardware warehouse. My wife and I also were picking up some items for a project and Kevin was the associate who asked if we needed help loading our purchase. I declined at the time, but who knew that years later we would come together and start a venture that would impact us for a lifetime.
When I started working at that hardware store over a decade ago Kevin became one of the people that trained me in my duties. When We got to talking something just clicked. We became fast friends and couldn’t wait till our next shift with one another. To be honest, we were like Turk and J.D. from scrubs. Friends and coworkers who worked so well together, nothing seemed to be able to slow us down.
It took some time but things changed for our budding friendship, as I was transferred to a new department. Not long after, Kevin moved to another store. We did our best to stay in contact, but distance can be a pain. So as many things do we seemed to drift out of each other’s lives.
Friends Without Border’s
Even though we wouldn’t see each other for some time we drifted in and out of contact with one another. Kevin stayed with the hardware store while I left it completely and moved on to other ventures. We’d text here and there, talking about our families, what we were doing and when we’d be able to hang out again.
We finally had a chance to hang out at a couple of my own birthday parties. Even after so much time apart we fell right back into sync when we met up. Jokes, friendly ribbing and just all out fun. They were some of the best times out of work we had had in quite a while. Those parties showed us both that we were the best of friends and knew each other so well.
After that it was a little bit of time before we saw each other again. School, work, families and our own hobbies seemed to bog us down. I was working with a local agriculture store at the time and Kevin was working in a whole new field at a hospital when we next met up. My brother-in-law, Kevin and I shot the breeze, catching up with each other and playing video games as we had long before that day. It was again a reminder of the bond we shared and we were all about.
What are Kevin and Jason all About?
Kevin has been into art for as long as I have known him. He has a great eye for it and creates amazing pieces of work himself. From anthropomorphic lizard men to demon skulls, Kevin draws it and puts himself into it. At one point we had thought of writing a book together; he would provide the art and I would provide some story with his help as well. It may have never come to light, but we enjoyed working on it.
Kevin’s other passion is a love for board games. In the past couple of years I have been introduced to so many board games by him and enjoyed all of them. Wingspan, Feast of Odin, Catan and so many more have been played both at my home and at a gaming cafe called Unplugged and have been well enjoyed. The only game I have yet to join with Kevin is a campaign in Dungeons and Dragons. One day perhaps.
I have always been into anime, comics, cartoons and the story telling that each media has. When I was younger I tried my hand at writing and I may have created at least one fan fiction that had some merit but I didn’t finish it. When it came to Kevin and I’s venture, my writing wasn’t what it used to be and things faltered from there. Even with those setbacks I still love a great story and I love reading them.
With anime as a major focus in my life. I have taken a liking to models based on a specific series; Mobile Suit Gundam. In all it’s iterations I have found many models and built them with childlike wonder. Seeing them as broken down parts and slowly cutting, snapping together and sliding those pieces into place has given me the capacity to see and build something from the ground up.
A Podcast? Say Whaaaaat?!
It wasn’t until the year 2022 that Kevin and I had the idea to collaborate on a venture again. At the time I hadn’t worked in two years since the pandemic started, Kevin was transitioning from his hospital job into a pharmacy gig. It was fun having my best friend at a closer proximity so we could catch up each day goof around and talk nerd culture. Being an avid podcast listener himself, Kevin approached me with the idea to start our very own.
The idea intrigued me but what did I know about a podcast? I had never heard one before, but I thought the basic premise was easy enough to comprehend. After accepting the idea, the only thing that we really needed to do was come up with what we would base our podcast on. Kevin made it easy. We were watching an episode of Vox Machina and the concept hit. I have an affinity for anime and Kevin has not had a good experience with it. Why not review anime with two distinct points of view? With that the K J & A Podcast was born.
We are Kevin and Jason and we want to talking to you about anything. We’re an indie podcast with no rhythm and rhyme and we’re unscripted all of the time. Our venture into podcasting started off as anime film reviews. Since the beginning of 2023 we have branched out and started tackling topics all over the face of entertainment; movies, games, TV shows and more. We like to provide some laughs while we break down our topics and offer our opinions on whatever we are covering. We may get mischievous, ridiculous and forgive us if we cuss but think it’s f$#%n’ wondrous.
